Muirsical Guest-Lists: Jason, Hamilton, New Zealand
My good Antipodean friend and muirsical colleague Jason Galu has provided a number of short lists that help define his own musical preferences, as well as including his favourite or influential rock vocalists (being none too shabby in front of a microphone himself)...
Hi there! O.k. here's three of my favourite groups, out of the many:
Toto
Steely Dan
Iron Maiden
With my fondness for Bobby Kimball and Steve Lukather (see below) Toto are no surprise, but being more of an eighties melodic rock and metal fan at heart, Steely Dan may seem a strange choice.
Not so.
I've been listening to a lot of Steely Dan lately, and in particular the song 'Home at Last'. That's a very tasty song, a nice little drum line, with some super-cool laid back instrumental movements in the solo section.
Nothing too indulgent, just enough to keep us in the groove!
Donald Fagan and Walter Becker were brilliant writers, and such a cool idea back in 70’s to write that great music and then source red hot soloists and session players to fill in the gaps.
Three of my favourite songs:
Rosanna (Toto)
Kid Charlemagne (Steely Dan)
Africa (Toto)
My Top 6 rock vocalists, including what I feel are their definitive vocal era's (and, in some cases, an influence in my own singing):
Steve Perry(Journey, '81-'87)
Bobby Kimball (Toto, '77-'84, Solo '90-'94)
David Coverdale (Whitesnake '85-'91)
Peter Cetera (Chicago/ Solo, '81-'92)
Lou Gramm (Foreigner/ Solo '77-'92)
Paul Rodgers (Free '68-'73, Bad Company '74-'79)
Finally, my five favourite rock guitarists:
Gary Moore
Steve Lukather
Ritchie Blackmore
Yngwie Malmsteen
John Sykes
No doubt a couple of the above will be to the horror of Mr Muir (certainly the last two)!
