Amy Eftekhari – This Moment
This Moment, the new EP from singer-songwriter Amy Eftekhari, is both perfectly titled and well-timed.
Remarkably, the Nottingham based singer, who has performed backing vocals for the likes of Beverly Knight and Joss Stone to name but two, is releasing her second EP a full fifteen years after her debut 4-track offering All The Words, but with good personal/ musical sacrifice reasons…
Amy Eftekhari isn’t just the fiancé of award winning British blues rock musician Laurence Jones, she is also his rock through what has been, particularly of late, a rough and debilitating health period for Jones (who lives with Crohn’s Disease).
As a result, outside of a handful of covers and singles (including the gorgeously soulful 'I Ain’t Got You'), Amy Eftekhari put her microphone down until Jones could re-evaluate his own career and plot a way forward as a solo artist, both in the studio and on the road (the latter with Eftekhari as support – in both senses).
Having released his debut solo album at the top of 2026, Amy Eftekhari dovetailed just a few weeks later with her stripped back EP This Moment, featuring Laurence Jones on acoustic guitar and co-writes.
The EP, bolstered by a warm and acoustically bright mix from Wayne Proctor, opens with the lilting 'My Dream,' which lyrically points to Amy Eftekhari’s personal journey and the long-awaited restart of her career ("I won’t be the one who walks away from me" is a particularly telling line).
Simply chorded but highly effective, the song wins out on its beautiful melody line and a lovely vocal from Eftekhari.
The vocally melodious 'Your Eyes' is a lyrically honest and musically sincere love song, which sets up the slower and contemplative title track, featuring Laurence Jones in vocal duet with Amy Eftekhari.
(Jones’ lower register on his verses works/ blends well here; it also adds a new colour to his bluesier shades).
The EP closes out on a classical (guitar) take of Eric Clapton’s deeply moving ballad, 'Tears in Heaven.'
No cover will ever truly match the impact of the original but Amy Eftekhari’s sweet and heartfelt vocal, accompanied by the deft touches from Laurence Jones on guitar, run it pretty close.
Previous comparisons to the likes of Katie Melua (particularly when Miss Melua is also in acoustic mode) are apt (and no bad thing), but now, at This Moment, Amy Eftekhari has truly found her own voice.
One we’ll hopefully be hearing a lot more from.
