WinterStorm, the celebrated Ayrshire "rock weekender by the beach," has announced full details of its special Legends and Legacies 2023 line up.
The special three-day event celebrates the best of the past seven years of the classic rock gathering in the town of Troon on the Ayrshire west coast.
The main Steve Strange Stage (named after the late industry legend) is fronted on the Thurdsay and Friday by by two rock guitar legends – the Michael Schenker Group and Uli Jon Roth.
The Legends and Legacies theme continues with the obligatory New Wave of British Heavy Metal contingent which, unsurprisingly for regulars, features another welcome return for both Praying Mantis and the Tygers of Pan Tang.
Paul Di’Anno, the original front man of Iron Maiden, will also be performing.
Di’Anno fits perfectly with the very roots of WinterStorm, having played the long-gone Ayr Pavilion back in the original NWOBHM days of 1980.
Johnny Gioeli and US rockers Hardline return to WinterStorm this year while Duth legends Focus bring their wonderfully eccentric prog rock to Troon for the first time.
As ever there is also a strong Blues contingent with Pat McManus (Mama’s Boys), prog-blues songstress Chantel McGregor and Jim Kirkpatrick (FM and the original WinterStorm catalyst) appearing over the three days.
Further welcome returns include German rockers The New Roses, England’s Massive Wagons and Scotland’s Mason Hill - three of the newer rock bands who have delivered some of the most memorable sets in the past.
The above trio will be joined by other acts who have raised the WinterStorm roof in the past including Wales’ Chez Kane, Scotland’s Bad Actress, Cassidy Paris from Australia, English rockers Ashen Reach and Northern Ireland’s Trucker Diablo.
There will also be two superb guest slots from the voice of WinterStorm’s "ain" Doogie White (Rainbow, MSG, Alcatrazz, La Paz) and the passionate tribal pipes & drums of Clann An Drumma

This year’s Sessions Stage continues to grow both in volume (it was originally an acoustic stage) and talent (featuring acts that could easily grace the main stage).
The Thursday line up, curated and presented by Glasgow promoters Shock City, features a reinvigorated /Sin'Dogs/ and Matt Pearce and The Mutiny.
The rest of the Sessions Stage weekend will include The Blue Lena’s debut WinterStorm performance along with the return of Wicked Smile, Bastette, Baleful Creed, The Brink, Syteria and comedian/ host Pete K Mally, with more to be announced.
The event again takes place at Troon Concert Hall, but this time increased to three days from Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th November 2023.
There will also be the now annual and accompanying After the ‘Storm event on Sunday 26th November featuring acoustic sets from Danny Vaughn, The Nimmo Brothers and one other still to be announced.
Since launching in 2016, WinterStorm has become a staple for both Scottish rock fans and many others from around the world and, as organiser and prime ‘Storm mover Ian McCaig adds: "Almost 50% of the advance tickets were sold before any bands were announced so it looks like our Legends and Legacies event will sell out in record time. And we can’t wait to welcome a more geographically spread audience than ever before, all of whom will be heading to the normally sleepy seaside town!"
